4-bed or larger, 2,500+ sq ft — $9,500–$13,000. Two-story layouts and bigger floor plans take more pipe, more openings, and more time.
PEX or Copper?
PEX is what we recommend for most Southwest Florida homes, and it's what the price brackets above assume. It doesn't corrode in our aggressive water, it tolerates minor slab movement, installs faster with fewer wall openings, and carries a manufacturer warranty on the pipe itself.
Type-L copper is still the right call for some owners — often ahead of an appraisal or for personal preference — and adds $2,000–$4,000 over the PEX price plus roughly an extra day of install time. A 2,650 sq ft Fort Myers home we repiped in copper for resale came to $11,800 and passed the county final on the first inspection.
The Polybutylene Factor
If your Cape Coral home was built between 1978 and 1995, there's a good chance it still has gray polybutylene supply lines — the pipe material that failed so widely it triggered a class-action settlement. Removing poly adds $500–$1,200 to the job, and it's the single most common reason Cape Coral homes get repiped.
